Pskov-based photographer and blogger Dmitry Markov received the First Instagram Grant from Getty Images. Time magazine reported about the event, noting that the amount of the grant was 10 thousand dollars.
Russian photographer and charity volunteer Markov hopes to use his winnings to spotlight the plight of orphaned children in his native country. “This grant will enable me to capture more stories and expand the project’s geography,” he tells TIME.
According to Markov, he created an Instagram account two years ago and it became his favorite project. He has about 30 thousand subscribers. There, he publishes pictures of Russia’s rural cities and its residents. His images are the reflection of harsh realism of average people lives.
