As the 72 year anniversary of the Victory Day is approaching, Russian government seeks the ways to commemorate, those who fought in WW2. Recently, a contest for the Rzhev Memorial took place. The work of Belgorod sculptor: Andrei Korobtsov, proved to be the best.
“I wanted to portray one of the hundreds of thousands of soldiers killed there. As if he looks at people, asking: how did this war end?” Korobtsov said.
The Red Army lost more, than 400 thousand people in the battles near Rzhev. This memorial will be a tribute to the fallen soldiers.
The monument will be installed in 2020 by the 75th anniversary of the Victory.
Incredible — I will definitely go to see it on my next vist to Rzhev in 2019.
