Recent report about the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, that billowed smoke as it passed through the North Sea and the English Channel, became an inspiration for jokes on the Internet. Some named this occurrence “the happy steamship weekend”.
30 year old ageing aircraft carrier was envisioned as “the latest display of Russian power projection”. Well, the move appears to have backfired.
“Photos and videos captured by international media showed the vessel billowing large plumes of black smoke, drawing jokes on social media that the steam-powered ship was actually, a 19th century relic fueled by coal.”
Moreover, a firefighting vehicle was spotted on the deck of the carrier, in case of the water shortage in the sea.
Old Soviet song by Leonid Utyosov called “Steamship” was remade.
